Everything you need to know about Lightning Lanes at Walt Disney World
On July 24, 2024 a new “skip the line” feature was introduced at Walt Disney World Resort. What once was “FastPass” and “Genie+” is now Lightning Lane MultiPass & Lightning Lane SinglePass. If you’re here, I’m sure you’re dying to know how you can best utilize this updated tool on your next Disney vacation. In this blog, I’m going to share some FAQs about the new system!
Already booked a trip on your own but realize you need more help? We can still work together! Just send me an email and we can see what your options are. Now, let’s get to the Lightning Lanes!
What is this new system called?
What was formerly Genie+ is now Lightning Lane MultiPass.
What was formerly Individual Lightning Lane is now Lightning Lane Single Pass.
First, let’s talk about Lightning Lane MultiPass.
The best part of this update is that now you can select up to 3 attractions at the same park from a variety of available times in advance. For On-Property guests, you can book up to 7 days in advance for the entire stay at 7:00 AM ET. For Off-Property guests, you can book up to 3 days in advance, one day at a time. 7:00 AM ET. Just another great benefit to staying on Disney property!
An important note, for international guests, or if you are on a cruise during your 7-Day booking window, you must be in the United States or Canada to book.
Price will vary by park and by date. You can purchase through the My Disney Experience app as soon as your booking window opens.
Once you’re in the park, after the first Lightning Lane has been redeemed, another may be selected. A guest may have up to 3 Lightning Lane selections at any time. Guests with a Park Hopper ticket can make in-park selections for any park. Only Advance Selections must be in the same park.
Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and EPCOT have two attraction Groups. Animal Kingdom does not have Groups.
When making advanced selections, guest may only choose one attraction from Group 1 and two from Group 2 OR all 3 from Group 2. Groups only apply to Advanced Selections. Once in the park, guests are not bound by Groups and may choose any available attraction in the program.
Lightning Lane SinglePass
This update is almost identical to the old Individual Lightning Lane process that existed previously. Lightning Lane Single Pass is for the super popular rides and allow you to select a return window in advance. The major change is that you can make this purchase in advance. On-Property Guests can purchase SinglePass up to 7 days in advance for the entire stay. Off-Property Guests can purchase SinglePass to 3 days in advance, one day at a time.
Price will vary by park and by date. You can purchase through the My Disney Experience app as soon as your booking window opens.
Only 2 Lightning Lane Single Passes may be purchased per day total, whether in advance or in-park. However, they can be purchased for any Walt Disney World theme park when a guest has a valid Park Hopper ticket.
